Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics Internet Resources
American Association of Artificial Intelligence. Nonprofit scientific society for advancing the scientific understanding of the processes that underlie thought and intelligent behavior, and their embodiment in machines. Stated goals are to increase public understanding of artificial intelligence (AI), improve the teaching and training of AI practitioners, and provide guidance for research planners and funders concerning the importance and potential of current AI developments and future directions. Artificial Intelligence WWW Review. Relates difference between two types of robots, those controlled by an external processor and those with their own processor. Also implies the possibilities of robotics to increase the learning curves of AI computers. Reference to the COG Project at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) AI Lab, which is a human-like robot developed for the further study and development of AI, and to begin to learn from humans and develop intelligence. Also a reference to the Kismet Project at MIT's AI Labs, which is a smaller robot developed for social interaction with humans. Also references to other projects at other universities, such as a study of how biological beings learn to use muscles and joints and how it can be incorporated into AI and Robotics underway at the University of California Robotics Lab at Berkeley, and another study of understanding visual images and object recognition at the Vision and Robotics Research Lab at the University of Rochester Computer Science Department. All of this implies particular applications of AI in Robotics, and vice-versa, and the merging of these and other disciplines. URL: http://www2.unl.ac.uk/~tek006/FINAL/Robot.html
