MEMORANDUM

SUBJECT: BUS 500: Business Internship
________________________________________________________________________
We highly recommend that business students consider an internship for this summer. By doing so, you can earn up to three hours of non-business option credit toward your major, receive competitive compensation, and, most importantly, get job experience that is relevant to your future career. Students are encouraged either to apply for positions that we generate or to find their own position. I must approve all internships.
For those applying for an internship position, we will attempt to generate two summer job leads for each applicant. Students interested in such an internship must enroll in BUS 500 this summer, sign a course contract, and complete an application. The necessary procedures include:
1. Obtain an internship application form from the following web site http://www.bus.olemiss.edu\pmalone\internship, print it out, complete it, and submit the completed application form to Dr. Malone in 337 Holman. A typed or neatly printed form is required because copies may be sent to prospective employers without further editing.
2. Obtain a BUS 500 contract from the web http://www.bus.olemiss.edu\pmalone\internship, complete the acceptance form, and return it Holman 337.
3. Indicate in the space provided on the application form preferences (location, etc.) or attach a note to me about any strong preferences, including location.
4. When the student is offered and accepts a summer job, (s)he must immediately submit a Job Confirmation Form to me for final approval.
5. To be approved, your internship must be full time. The current interpretation of full time is 360 hours over the course of a semester or the equivalent of 9 weeks at 40 hours a week.
6. Since your internship experience must be full time, you may not take more than 6 hours of coursework during your internship semester. You may take a total of 9 hours (6 hours of coursework and 3 hours of BUS 500 or Internship credit).
I am delighted to answer individual questions from students about internships, but only after they have read carefully the course contract and the written assignment guidelines, both of which are available on the web. Thank you!
