BUS 500 Business Internship
Instructor: Dr. Phil Malone
This contract specifies some of the policies and procedures to be used in this course. Throughout the document, the words "I," "me," and "my" refer to the instructor while "you" and "your" refer to the student. In order to remain enrolled in this course, you must read this document, then sign and return the form at the end of the contract, along with other materials described subsequently, to me in 337 Holman Hall or leave it with one of the secretaries 320 North Hall. Your signature indicates your awareness and acceptance of the terms and policies described herein.
Qualifications for Enrolling in BUS 500
You may participate in this program by fulfilling the following requirements:
1. You must be a business student of junior or senior standing.
2. You must be employed for at least 10 weeks (320 hours) of full-time employment.
Procedures for Job Assignment and Enrollment in the Course
1. To apply for an internship, complete an application packet by (a) filling out the Business Internship Application Form, (b) signing the signature form at the end of this contract, (c) providing a recent resume, and (d) including a copy of an up-to-date transcript. Submit four copies of the application form and resume and single copies of the other item to Dr. Malone in Holman 337 or room 320 in North Hall. Although you should submit your packet as soon as possible, you must submit it by the final add date for the appropriate session.
If You Have Secured Your Own Job: You need to submit one copy of your application packet, along with one copy of the completed Job Confirmation Form discussed subsequently. Your job must be approved by me to receive internship credit.
If
You Want Me to Provide You With a Job
Once you receive a job lead from me, you have the responsibility for contacting the employer to arrange an interview, although the employer may call you first. If you eventually do not receive an offer, let me know and I will try to find another prospective match for you. When you do accept an offer, you must complete and submit the Job Confirmation Form by the deadline discussed subsequently. Of course, I cannot guarantee you a job, so you should make every effort to find your own position, too.
2. You may not take a job through interviews directly generated by me and then decide not to enroll in BUS 500. If you do receive your job through me, you will be expected to complete the assigned work for academic credit.
Requirements for Successfully Completing the Course
1. You must fully complete, sign, and submit a Job Confirmation Form to me in Holman 337 or room 320 in North Hall no later than the final drop/add date for the appropriate summer session. Failure to meet this deadline will result in your being dropped from the course.
2. You must successfully complete assignments consisting of (a) a diary of your daily internship work, and (b) a paper analyzing your employer and your primary internship activities. You must submit your diary and paper to me no later than August 31. Normally, you will receive an "I" (Incomplete) for the summer session in which you enrolled and your final grade (pass / fail) during the next semester. The University will notify you of a change of your “I” grade within approximately two weeks of my submitting it.
Alternatively, if you submit your written work on or before the first day of finals week during summer session and I have received an evaluation from your job supervisor, I will process a final grade (pass / fail) that should appear on your grade report for summer session.
3. Your evaluation and final grade will be determined primarily by your written assignment, and an evaluation provided by your job supervisor.
